1 MELBOURNE (1)

Win-loss record: 8-3

Did what they had to do against a Bulldogs side that was crippled by injury. Now the Storm get crippled by State of Origin again, as they go in without nine stars on the road against the Scott Prince-led Titans.

2 SYDNEY ROOSTERS (2)

Win-loss record: 8-3

The Tigers came at them in the second half, but the Roosters held firm. They were the only team that won minus a significant number of rep players before Origin I. Can they repeat that feat against Manly?

3 MANLY (4)

Win-loss record: 7-4

Twice now the Sea Eagles have shown enormous courage to win. They did it despite injuries forcing them down to one bench player against the Eels and having a player sent off didn't stop them against the Raiders.

4 BRISBANE (5)

Win-loss record: 7-4

This season hinges on the fitness of Darren Lockyer for the Broncos. He returned from injury to inspire a win over the Eels, but now he is lost to Origin. Cross fingers, Broncos, that he gets through it unscathed.

5 CRONULLA (7)

Win-loss record:7-4

The usually low-scoring Sharks racked up their biggest score of the season in a 30-12 win over the Titans. If that becomes a trend and their defence remains tight, then they can obviously do a lot of damage.

6 GOLD COAST (3)

Win-loss record: 7-4

If the Titans don't quickly find an antidote to their woes on the road, then this season isn't going to turn out nearly as good as it could for them. The loss to the Sharks was their fourth in five away games.

7 PENRITH (8)

Win-loss record: 6-4

The Panthers are rocking, with three wins in a row. They lose inspirational leader Petero Civoniceva this week because of Origin, but their opponents, the Sharks, lose Greg Bird and Paul Gallen, so no excuses.

8 WESTS TIGERS (6)

Win-loss record: 6-5

The loss to the Roosters showed the Tigers where they stood. They are good enough to finish in the bottom half of the top eight, but not good enough to make it if they don't keep their intensity at 100 per cent.

9 ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA (12)

Win-loss record: 5-6

They may have only beaten the Rabbitohs, but the important thing was that once they took control of the game they kept it. There were no stuff-ups that gave the Rabbitohs any sort of sniff at a win.

10 NEWCASTLE (9)

Win-loss record: 4-6

Rebuilding is never a simple process. There is always the chance a couple of bricks will fall out of the wall before they set and you'll have to put them back in. Observation: the Knights miss Kurt Gidley like oxygen.

11 WARRIORS (14)

Win-loss record: 5-6

They are obviously toying with us. They go through the first 10 rounds with a 100 per cent winning record at home and 100 per cent losing record away, then, in the next two rounds, they lose at home and win away.

12 PARRAMATTA (10)

Win-loss record: 4-6

Sure, they played very well in what was a highly-quality game against the Broncos, but in the end they lost - again. That is the bottom line. If they had been travelling better before that, it wouldn't hurt so much.

13 CANBERRA (11)

Win-loss record: 4-6

The Raiders were a bumbling mess for much of their game against the Sea Eagles. Even the opposition having a player sent off couldn't help them. Playing at home is normally their strength, so that was poor.

14 BULLDOGS (13)

Win-loss record: 4-7

The inevitable happened when, ravaged by injury, they went to Melbourne to play a full-strength Storm. There is no point dwelling on the 46-0 loss. They've got to move on and try to regroup against the Knights.

15 NORTH QUEENSLAND (15)

Win-loss record: 3-8

They threw everything they could find at the Panthers. Even with a man sent off, they nearly won. That's how critical a game it was for them. Now they lose Johnathan Thurston to Origin again. Good luck.

16 SOUTH SYDNEY (16)

Win-loss record: 1-10

Those shots of co-owner Russell Crowe leaning over the railing in his private box watching the Rabbitohs lose are becoming disturbing. He looks ready to explode. Maybe it is time he unleashed hell on someone.
