INJURED Gold Coast prop Luke Bailey may play again this season, provided his Titans teammates can go deep into the NRL finals without him.

Bailey had a pin inserted in his ankle last week, with initial reports saying his season was a write-off.

But the Titans co-captain revealed he hadn't given up hope of making a comeback, on the proviso Gold Coast were still playing in late September.

'You've got to remain positive; I think if they'd cut my leg off I'd still be hopeful of playing a game towards the end of the year," said Bailey, whose foot will remain ensconced in a protective boot for another two weeks.

"It's around about 12 weeks they said [I'd be back] and we're just after the halfway mark [of this season], so if you work that out and you heal properly and go by the rehabilitation program, there might be a good chance that I could squeeze a couple of games in.

"I won't be pushing it, but it would definitely be nice to finish the year with one or two games and maybe a grand final appearance, who knows."

Twelve weeks would take Bailey to the second week of the finals.

After starting the year with a bang, including winning six of their first seven matches, the Titans have slipped down the ladder and face the Roosters at the Sydney Football Stadium next round.

But Bailey was confident the side would turn around its recent woes which have been attributed to Scott Prince, Anthony Laffranchi and Ashley Harrison being away on Origin duty but now Prince has a broken arm things will be even more difficult.
