THE promising golfer caught up in the Greg Bird saga has put the controversy behind him to help NSW win an interstate title.

Just two weeks after Bird allegedly attempted to blame Brent Watson for the alleged assault with a glass of girlfriend Katie Milligan, the 23-year-old golfer from Branxton helped the NSW Colts side take the title at Mona Vale Golf Club on Friday. When asked by The Sun-Herald to comment on the Bird case, Watson said: "No thanks, I'm sweet".

Bird's ex-girlfriend Stacey Sulway dismissed suggestions Mr Watson could have been involved.

"He's a sweetheart," she said. "Him, me and Greg have been friends since we were little."
