BRISBANE have been forced into a major reshuffle of their squad for tonight's clash with the Cowboys following the withdrawal yesterday of lock Tonie Carroll.
Carroll failed a fitness on his ankle yesterday morning, and coach Wayne Bennett opted to shift Corey Parker into lock and promoted Ashton Sims to the second row.
David Stagg has been relegated to the bench and Joel Moon will start for him in the centres. Reece Robinson has earned a place on the interchange.
North Queensland halfback Anthony Watts, filling in for Johnathan Thurston, remains in doubt with an ankle injury.
Parramatta coach Michael Hagan will rest fullback Luke Burt for tonight's clash with Manly, shifting Jarryd Hayne to the back and giving Tony Williams a start on the wing against the club he will join next season. Burt will not play for NSW Cup team Wentworthville. Prop Josh Cordoba is also in doubt with an abdominal injury. If he is ruled out, Todd Lowrie will play.
Manly interchange forward Mark Bryant is in doubt, although coach Des Hasler would not specify the nature of the injury. Glenn Hall is on standby.
A first contact session of the week for in-doubt Penrith Luke Lewis (calf) and Frank Pritchard (shoulder) today will decide whether they are fit to play Gold Coast tomorrow night.
"I'm optimistic everyone should be right," coach Matt Elliott said. Elliott said Luke Rooney, named as 18th man as he attempts a return from a hamstring injury, is still a chance of playing.
Gold Coast are also optimistic returning players Ashley Harrison (ribs), Brett Delaney (groin) and Luke O'Dwyer (shoulder) will play against the Panthers.
Coach John Cartwright is yet to finalise his side after naming a seven-man bench.
Newcastle skipper Steve Simpson is in significant doubt for the Knights' trip to Cronulla tomorrow night after rolling his ankle yesterday and quitting a training session. If Simpson is ruled out, 18th man Mark Taufua is likely to replace him.
Five-eighth Chris Bailey is also in doubt with a quad injury. If he is ruled out, hooker Scott Dureau will revert to halfback and Jarrod Mullen will take over at five-eighth. Centre Adam MacDougall has a calf problem.
Knights coach Brian Smith believes representative forward Greg Bird will return for Cronulla off the bench, even though Sharks officials insist he won't be rushed back from a knee injury. Isaac de Gois has recovered from a knock to the ribs and is likely to play.
The Bulldogs and Warriors are both expected to be "1-17" for their clash tomorrow night. Ryan Shortland will travel with the Warriors as 18th man.
Canberra captain Alan Tongue remains troubled by a rib injury but is expected to play against the Roosters on Sunday. The Roosters are expected to be as named.
Wests Tigers skipper Brett Hodgson is in doubt for Sunday's encounter against the Rabbitohs due to a leg injury. Coach Tim Sheens will give his fullback until game day to prove his fitness.
"We are hopeful with a Sunday game that he'll be right but it's a Monday to Sunday [turnaround] so it could be an issue for us," Sheens said. Utility Tim Moltzen trained with the Tigers yesterday and will replace Hodgson in the squad if he is ruled out.
South Sydney coach Jason Taylor said his side was "1-17 at this stage".
St George Illawarra coach Nathan Brown was still undecided about the make-up of his squad after naming a seven-man bench to face Melbourne, who are expected to be as named, on Monday night.
