Returning Raiders enforcer Neville Costigan has sent out a warning to the star-studded Sydney Roosters pack, saying Canberra's forwards are primed to dominate the middle during tomorrow's clash at Sydney Football Stadium.
But the Queensland State of Origin hopeful cautioned his team not to expect Australian stars Willie Mason and Anthony Tupou to be affected by playing in tonight's Centenary Test.Roosters coach Brad Fittler has named Mason and Tupou on the bench for the clash with the Raiders, but the home team still has plenty of attacking ability in its run-on side.
Representative stars Mark O'Meley, Nate Myles and Craig Fitzgibbon will all start against a Raiders pack led by Costigan, veteran prop Scott Logan and skipper Alan Tongue.
Costigan expected Mason and Tupou to be fired up following tonight's clash with New Zealand.
"It's probably a plus for them because after the Test they'll probably be pretty pumped," Costigan said.
"They won't be that sore because it's only the night before. I know if I had just played for Australia the night before I'd be pumped up for the next game.
"I've played Origin on the Wednesday and backed up for the Friday night game and it wasn't that tough."
Costigan had precautionary scans on his quad yesterday after suffering muscle tightness.
But he was confident he had not done any further damage and would be ready to take his place. He predicted the game would be won up front and said the Raiders could out-muscle the Roosters.
"I reckon we're more aggressive than they are so we just need to smack into them," he said."Our forwards are pretty tough, we've got a good pack here at the Raiders and we can get over them."It will be a tough match but we certainly can get on top.
"We have to just get a good roll on and get our forwards to dominate."
The Roosters have had a disrupted preparation for tomorrow's game, with Mason, Tupou and New Zealand trio Sam Perrett, Iosia Soliola and Sataimata Sa all missing from training.
But Myles yesterday declared the Roosters were ready to take whatever the Raiders threw at them.
"We've been training really well, we've had a couple of younger boys come in that might get an opportunitythis weekend depending on how many pull through from the Test," Myles said.
"They've been pretty enthusiastic, which is contagious.
"I think I'll have to lift my rate a bit and some of the other boys will as well, but we'll just see how the game pans out. We can't be doing other people's jobs, everyone has got to be doing their own jobs for the team to be successful."
Raiders coach Neil Henry has indicated Costigan will play no more than 40 minutes tomorrow, following his injury-plagued start to the season.
But Myles said the Roosters needed to be wary of his stinging defence.
"Nev's a good player so we're not going to be thinking he's going to be knocking up too quick," Myles said.
"We've just got to stick to our game plan which at the moment is to hold onto the ball and complete our sets."It will be a good battle, I know one thing I don't want to be running straight at Nev."
