The stakes weren't as high, but it was still easy to think back to the Canberra Raiders' famous 1989 grand final victory over Balmain as the team again engineered a come-from-behind win against the Wests Tigers yesterday.

In 1989 the Raiders came from 10-points behind at half-time to clinch the club's first premiership.

Yesterday the new generation of Raiders reeled in a 14-point half-time deficit in front of 12,240 fans at Canberra Stadium to record a 30-24 win, their third of the season.

It was the third time the Raiders had kept a team scoreless after half-time this season.

Coach Neil Henry and captain Alan Tongue said patience was the key to the team's four-try second half.

"I think we've proved we've got a bit of character about us and a bit of starch about us and I'm pretty happy about that," Henry said.

"We knew that if we could be patient and control possession we were in a game of footy. "

Highlighting the Raiders' character was the performance of prop Scott Logan.

In his first game back since fracturing his cheek three weeks ago Logan took a hit on the same spot in his very first tackle.

But he refused to go off and battled on bravely.

Three-try hero Adrian Purtell said his team had always been confident it could reel in the Tigers.

"I think our performance in that second half shows the character that we've got," Purtell said.

"It's always nice to play at home and get a few tries and to come from behind to get the win has given us some great momentum and confidence."

The Raiders earnt some silverware for their efforts, winning the inaugural 1989 League Legends Cup.
