Canberra Raiders hooker Ryan Hinchcliffe will consider moving to the English Super League next season after fellow rake Lincoln Withers ruled out seeking an early release from his contract.
Withers yesterday denied rumours he was considering a move to England, saying he would remain at the Raiders for at least the next two years.
With Wests Tigers hooker Stuart Flanagan set to join the Raiders next season, Hinchcliffe's chances of remaining in Canberra now appear over.
Withers said he was happy to remain at the Raiders despite Flanagan's pending arrival possibly forcing him out of the No.9 jersey.
"I'm here for this year and next year and I like Australia and I've got my kids set up here," Withers said. "I'd like to stay here, I've got the kids here and they're starting to go to school and mum and dad are here as well."
Hinchcliffe's hopes of remaining at the Raiders had hinged on Withers requesting a release from his deal.
The 23-year-old Hinchcliffe said his manager Wayne Beavis had spoken to a number of NRL clubs, but was yet to secure a formal offer.
"If Lincoln did go I know that I'd be right and I'd get a contract here," Hinchcliffe said."But at this point in time I don't think Lincoln is going to go."There's been a little bit of interest from a couple of clubs, but nothing official at the moment."I'll look to do anything."I'm not particularly set, if I have to go [overseas] I have to go."I've got to try to look after my best interests and go where I have the best opportunity of playing first grade."Hinchcliffe is recovering from a broken thumb, which will keep him out of NRL contention until at least round 12. He hoped to return for Queensland Cup feeder side Souths Logan during the Raiders' round 11 bye.
He said Raiders chief executive Don Furner had warned him the club was chasing Flanagan before the start of the season.
"I'd spoken to Don about it and he told me a couple of months before [signing Flanagan] what they were going to do and what they were looking at.
"I wasn't shocked ... it's all a bit up in the air with what I'm going to do at the moment.
"If I get back on deck playing and get back playing first grade hopefully I'll get some talks started."
