RADIO station 2GB has filed a complaint to the Australian Rugby League and the Bulldogs football club about the behaviour of its star player Willie Mason at Sydney Airport last night as the Australian team gathered to fly to Brisbane for the Anzac Test.
Mason, named in the Australian team to contest the Test on Friday night, has been accused of juvenile and embarrassing behaviour in front of 2GB's rugby league reporter, Michelle Keighran.
Mason refused an interview with Keighran, belittling and embarrassing her in front of his team mates, and then sought to interrupt other interviews she was conducting by yelling and imitating rap artists.
Keighran said Mason yelled across the check-in counter to other players saying: "Oh, when did you know you were in the side? I was told two weeks ago".
The selectors had met earlier in the night to ratify the team.
A 2GB producer, Trevor Long, said Mason's behaviour was unacceptable and unworthy of an Australian representative.
Keighran has interviewed Mason previously without incident. She said that Bulldogs officials had later told her he was upset about the 2GB presenter Ray Hadley's repeated references to his imitation of urinating using a water bottle in last week's game.
"His behaviour tonight was a prime example of him having no balls, because if he has an issue with Ray then he should take it up with Ray, not humiliate me," Keighran said.
The ARL general manager, Geoff Carr, said last night that he was investigating the matter.
