1 MELBOURNE (1)

Win-loss record: 9-5

The Storm have not lost a fair dinkum game - you know, one in which they didn't have nine or 10 stars out because of State of Origin - since round three, against the Roosters. That is really all that matters.

2 MANLY (2)

Win-loss record: 10-4

Unlike the Storm, the Sea Eagles have had a dream run through the Origin period, losing only one player for each of the three games. They are playing terrific footy, but the Storm are still the testing material.

3 SYDNEY ROOSTERS (3)

Win-loss record: 11-4

The Bulldogs had been torn apart by injury, but it was still a top effort by the Roosters to beat them without their Origin stars. It came down to which team had the greater desire - and the Roosters clearly won that battle.

4 CRONULLA (4)

Win-loss record:11-4

The surprising thing was that the Raiders were such clear favourites to beat the Sharks - even at home. The Sharks keep rolling along. They won all three of their games without star forwards Paul Gallen and Greg Bird before Origin matches.

5 ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA (5)

Win-loss record: 8-6

Someone had to knock the Titans over at Skilled Park eventually, so why not the in-form Dragons? Tough away games against the Knights, Storm and Sharks during the next five rounds will tell us if the Dragons are premiership material.

6 BRISBANE (6)

Win-loss record: 8-1-6

Now that the Broncos have drawn a game at least they won't have to worry about points differential - that is, unless they finish level on points with the team they drew with, the Panthers. Superstar Darren Lockyer isn't far away from a return now.

7 GOLD COAST (7)

Win-loss record: 8-6

A few weeks ago they were looking like genuine top-four contenders - now there is a risk they will miss the finals. After four losses in their last five games they need to steady the ship. Huge home game against the Sea Eagles on Friday.

8 PARRAMATTA (8)

Win-loss record: 8-7

If the Eels have got the killer instinct then it's about time they started showing it. Their game against the weakened Storm was a perfect opportunity to dramatically improve their points differential, but they blew it. They nearly blew the game, too.

9 NEWCASTLE (9)

Win-loss record: 6-8

They were never going to beat the Sea Eagles without their three Origin players. They need everyone on deck if they are to make a run at the finals and now that the representative season is over the way is clear for them, if they are good enough.

10 CANBERRA (10)

Win-loss record: 6-8

The Sharks showed the Raiders what it takes to be a team headed for the finals on Monday night. When it was 12-0 to the Raiders, the Sharks didn't bat an eyelid. They worked their way back into it, while the Raiders made too many mistakes.

11 SOUTH SYDNEY (13)

Win-loss record: 4-10

Sure, they only beat the one team that was below them on the ladder going into the round, but it was the way the Rabbitohs knocked the Cowboys over, coming from 24 points down with a never-say-die attitude and a heap of enthusiasm.

12 PENRITH (12)

Win-loss record: 6-1-7

They had as many players out as their opponents - the Broncos - did, but the Panthers were at home and after back-to-back losses had seen them drop out of the top eight they really should have made sure of a win, instead of winding up with a draw.

13 WARRIORS (14)

Win-loss record: 6-9

The fact they were able to get the job done on the road against hot favourites the Tigers is entitled to make Warriors fans even more frustrated about their team's overall poor season. Why isn't that same level of commitment there every week?

14 WESTS TIGERS (11)

Win-loss record: 7-8

The only team the Tigers have beaten in the last month is the Cowboys. There is something major missing when they go into a critical game at home and allow a team below them on the ladder to get a 16-0 jump on them. At the crossroads.

15 BULLDOGS (15)

Win-loss record: 4-10

It looked like they had bounced back from the previous week's humiliation of a 40-point loss to the Raiders when they scored the first 10 points of the game against the Roosters, but then the Roosters scored the next 24. Their bite is gone.

16 NORTH QUEENSLAND (16)

Win-loss record: 3-12

They could have climbed off the bottom of the table by beating the Rabbitohs and it looked like they were doing just that when they led 28-4. But, somehow, they managed to lose for the ninth time in a row. Their season is a train wreck.
