AS Manly opened up a lead at the top of the competition table, centre Jamie Lyon has opened up about his Origin snub - and insisted he had no regrets.
After playing a significant role in the Sea Eagles' 34-14 win over the Gold Coast, Lyon said he did not believe it would have been fair to make himself available for the Blues when his heart was not entirely in it.
"Hopefully, all the stuff that's getting written about it gets out of the way pretty soon, but I just didn't think it was fair - I didn't really want to go in there if I wasn't giving it 100 per cent, if I'm not giving it my all, for an Origin game," Lyon said last night. "I was probably better off giving it to someone who definitely wanted to be there. That was probably more fair - put someone else in there who definitely wanted to be there. I just want to concentrate on my club footy and spend as much time at home with my family."
During a telephone conversation with Blues coach Craig Bellamy in the lead-up to Origin II, Lyon effectively ruled himself out by saying he would prefer to concentrate on his club duties - a decision that led to a hail of debate.
After Mark Gasnier was ruled out of the decider, Lyon was not considered for selection and watched the match on television at home on Wednesday night. But despite admitting his decision had taken a toll on his family, Lyon insisted he had no regrets.
"No, it was just good to be at home watching it on TV," he said. "I was a bit shattered for the boys, but yeah, no regrets at all."
The unwanted attention for the laid-back Lyon, however, has had an effect. "Not so much me, more my family," he said. "There's not much you can do about that sort of stuff. I'm pretty laid-back. You can't do much about it. It's just good to play well and get the wins. Just keep rolling on."
