WESTS TIGERS coach Tim Sheens claims his club's horrendous record against Parramatta will have little bearing on the outcome of their make-or-break NRL clash tomorrow night.
The Tigers haven't beaten the Eels since 2004, and have only emerged victorious in four of the 17 clashes between the sides since the emergence of the joint-venture club.
But the poor run holds little weight with Sheens - as does Parramatta's much-needed win against the Sydney Roosters last Sunday.
Asked if he thought the under-achieving Eels had turned the corner against the Roosters, Sheens was quite succinct.
"No," he said. "With respect to Parramatta, I think the Roosters were a little unlucky in many ways. I was at the game live and I think they got some tough calls.
"If [Anthony] Tupou puts the ball down with a minute to go they probably win the game.
"Parramatta played all right but I'm comfortable [with] the way we're travelling the last few games also.
"We're not afraid to play this side next Monday night, and I'm certainly not going to add to any fear by telling them we've lost six in a row [against Parramatta], that's a very negative attitude.
"Plenty of sides have shown they can beat Parramatta and we're no different."
Sheens's record against the Eels as head coach of the Tigers is a dismal two wins from 11 matches.
Another loss tomorrow night would result in his side again losing touch with the top eight, and leave them needing two wins from their last three matches to secure a berth in the finals.
But Sheens said he wouldn't be using his side's recent history against the Eels in any pre-match pep talk.
"OK, we haven't had a lot of wins against them but there's plenty of teams we haven't had a lot of wins against [such as] Penrith, Melbourne," he said.
"What happened last week let alone last year, five years ago, means nothing."
Captain Brett Hodgson has been named to return at fullback for the Tigers after four weeks on the sidelines with a calf injury.
But Tigers prop Todd Payten will miss three matches after taking an early guilty plea to a grade-two dangerous throw charge arising from the win against St George Illawarra last week.
