Melbourne prop Ben Cross was today charged with grade three contrary conduct for unnecessary contact with the face of Manly's Brett Stewart in their NRL grand final victory.
Cross was charged by the NRL match review committee and faces a two-week to three-week ban for the incident with Stewart in just the sixth minute of last night's 34-8 win at Telstra Stadium.
Television replays showed Cross had his hands around the eyes of Stewart, however the Manly player has been unable to provide evidence against the Storm forward as he has "no recollection" of the incident.
Stewart was flattened by Storm second rower Michael Crocker early in the second half and left the field heavily concussed and has no memory of the grand final.
Crocker's heavy tackle however was not penalised by referee Tony Archer or the match review panel.
Manly's Jamie Lyon and Jason King have both been charged from incidents in the early softening-up period of the game.
Lyon was charged with a grade one dangerous throw on Billy Slater in the first minute but can escape a ban with an early guilty plea.
King meanwhile was hit with a grade two contrary conduct charge for lifting his knees in the seventh minute and faces a one or two week suspension.
