WARRIORS fullback Wade McKinnon says Brisbane can throw whatever they like at him when he makes a comeback, only six months after undergoing a knee reconstruction, at Mt Smart Stadium tomorrow night.
McKinnon, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament playing in a pre-season trial game in February, says his recovery could not have been better. He's not apprehensive going into what will be his 100th first-grade game spread across three clubs - South Sydney and Parramatta being the others.
"I'm sure they'll test me out and whatever they throw at me I'm going to have to deal with it," McKinnon said yesterday. "But I'm not really worried about what Brisbane do. I'm really looking forward to playing. I'm excited and I'm confident. You've got to be confident if you're going to play this game.
"I've done everything at training. We've had a few scrimmages against our under-20s team and I got through that OK. Now I've got to get out there and start playing again. We were always aiming at round 22 and nothing went wrong along the way, so I'm here now."
Asked what he was expecting of himself for what is a must-win game for the Warriors if they are to stay alive in the finals race, McKinnon replied: "I'm not putting any big expectations on myself. I just want to get out there and do the little things right - be in position to catch the ball on the full from kicks and run it back well, that sort of thing. I'm just looking to play my way into the game."
Warriors coach Ivan Cleary obviously has tremendous confidence in McKinnon's ability to make an impact, because the player he is taking over from at fullback - Lance Hohaia - has been playing strongly. Hohaia has been included on the bench against the Broncos.
