PENRITH star Rhys Wesser will, at this stage, remain with the Panthers to see out his deal until the end of next year, but that could change if another club is prepared to cover the bulk of his contract money.
It emerged yesterday that Penrith were prepared to let Wesser go at the end of this season if they could come to an arrangement with another club which left the Panthers to pay only about 30 per cent of the deal themselves.
"I had an inquiry from a club," Penrith chief executive Mick Leary said last night. "That was a few weeks ago and we were prepared to discuss the situation, but I haven't heard back from the club. I can only guess that they are not going to come back to us now, so unless something else happens Rhys will be seeing out his deal with us."
Wesser, 29, was recently shifted from his regular position at fullback to the wing, to accommodate the introduction of 18-year-old fullback Lachlan Coote. There has been talk since that Penrith were prepared to let Wesser go if he could find a deal elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Gold Coast have re-signed prop Michael Henderson until the end of 2012. Henderson missed the start of the season because of a badly broken leg he suffered last year.
And Manly veteran Steve Menzies yesterday confirmed he had signed a one-year deal with English club Bradford.
