Highlight
Not hard to work that one out. They began their campaign with a
poor performance against Australia, losing 30-6, but were not
beaten again. They started as rank outsiders in the final, but
stunned the league world with a tremendous 34-20 win over the
Aussies.
Lowlight
The opening loss to Australia didn't appear to leave the Kiwis
with much hope of turning things around to the extent that they
could beat the Aussies. They obviously disagreed.
Will we ever see your face again?
We will keep seeing Wayne Bennett's face in the NRL, but will
he look for another challenge on the international stage after
having a considerable influence as New Zealand coach Stephen
Kearney's assistant? The Poms could sure do with his help.
The crystal ball
The Kiwis will keep bobbing up with the occasional win over the
Aussies, but don't expect it to happen regularly. They played a
great final, but for them to win they also needed the Aussies to
contribute to their own demise.
Lardy's lobster
The Kiwis, with 16.5 points start, against Australia in the
group stage. Not enough. Should have waited until the final.
