8th min Maroons five-eighth Karmichael Hunt, a controversial selection at pivot, sits Hoffman on his backside with a crunching front-on tackle. It's the first of a string of big hits from Hunt.

17th min TRY Origin debutant Peter Wallace shows their nerve of a veteran, hoisting a well-judged kick towards Quinn's corner. The Melbourne winger shows the skills of an AFL star to leap above rival Brent Tate to touch down. Fitzgibbon hooks his conversion attempt wide of the posts. NSW 10 Queensland 0.

35th min TRY Centre Mark Gasnier unleashes his trademark fancy footwork to slice through the Maroons defence before dishing a one-handed pass inside for a flying Stewart to race over and score. Wallace steps up for the conversion kick but misses from close range. NSW 14 Queensland 0.40th min TRY After conceding two tries down his wing, Tate gives the Queenslanders hope after racing through to dive on a Johnathan Thurston kick behind the defensive line. Thurston's conversion attempt from out wide hooks across the face of the goal. NSW 14 Queensland 4.

42nd min Gasnier makes Greg Inglis look pedestrian, palming him off to race downfield, but his good work doesn't reap the ultimate reward, as he fails to off-load to support with the tryline begging.

53rd min Slater saves a deep kick by Wallace then returns the ball with interest, off-loading to Inglis, who tip-toes down the sideline before flicking the ball back in play. The Maroons pick up the loose ball to keep the move alive through several sets of hands before the Blues defence swamps Justin Hodges just short of their own line.

68th min TRY Blues capitalise on Thurston knock-on as another debutant, Anthony Laffranchi, gets in on the action, backing up Gasnier to score. A sweet pass from Bird allows Gasnier to stand up Inglis and set sail for the line. Fitzgibbon misses the conversion attempt. NSW 18 Queensland 4.

73rd min Maroons denied a try by video referee after Hoffman races across to drag Tate's leg into touch as the winger dives over in the corner.

79th min TRY Folau gets a consolation for the Maroons, sneaking over in the corner. Thurston converts from the sideline, but it's all too late. NSW 18 Queensland 10.
